West Milford's Favorite Lake for Family Fun

Safe swimming, clean beaches, and real summer memories at Bubbling Springs Park in West Milford, NJ.

About Us

Some lakes make you wonder about the water. At Bubbling Springs Park, 154 visitors have weighed in with a 4.5-star verdict, and the consensus is clear: families keep coming back. Situated on Macopin Road in West Milford, this municipal park sits at the edge of the Highlands region, where the water runs cool and the lifeguards actually pay attention.

The lake draws a crowd that knows what it wants. Parents with young kids gravitate here because the swimming area is genuinely supervised, the beach stays picked up, and the surrounding Passaic County woodlands make the backdrop feel like a proper escape, not a glorified parking lot with a puddle. Concession food is available on-site, and shaded picnic tables give families a real place to set up for the day.

Swimming lessons are offered here, which says something about how seriously the park takes safety. The water runs a characteristic green that the regulars take in stride, and the West Milford Parks & Recreation team keeps the grounds in solid shape. At $15 per person, it is not a free afternoon, but the family cap makes it work for groups, and the experience is honest, local, and exactly what a New Jersey summer lake day should feel like.

What We Offer

Bubbling Springs offers supervised lake swimming for all ages, with certified lifeguards posted throughout the season. The designated swimming area is managed with younger visitors specifically in mind, making it one of the more reliably safe lake options in the West Milford area.

Beyond the water, the park provides a beach area that gets regular maintenance, picnic tables for groups, and an on-site concession stand so you are not rationing granola bars by noon. Swimming lessons are available for kids who are working on their skills, a detail that separates this spot from parks that simply open the gate and wish you luck. Seasonal programming and group visits are coordinated through the West Milford municipal recreation department.

Admission is $15 per person with a family pricing option that softens the cost for households. The park operates under West Milford's municipal recreation umbrella, so hours and seasonal schedules are posted through the official township site. Grilling is not permitted on-site, so plan your cookout for before or after your visit.

Why Choose Us

Certified lifeguards on duty every open day, with a track record visitors consistently praise in reviews.

Family admission pricing makes a full-day lake outing affordable for households of three or more.
Beach area is actively maintained and kept clean, a detail that shows up in nearly every positive review.
Surrounded by West Milford's Highland woodlands, giving the park a genuine nature feel, not a concrete recreation area.
On-site concession stand and shaded picnic tables mean you can spend the whole day without leaving the park.

"Not a bad lake for a vacation with small children . Safe lake for swimming both adults and children . There is an opportunity to buy food, there are tables. There is no barbecue. Overall good - but too many rules."

"I don't think I'd go out of my way to go to bubbling springs, but my mother-in-law happens to live a few minutes away, so we went twice. ;-) 15$ a person is not 'cheap' but thankfully there's a family pass for $25 that covered the 4 of us. No extra charge for parking. Plenty of lifeguards on duty, lots of camp kids on a weekday, we witnessed a "missing-camper"-drill which was interesting. Liked that it was a sand beach so our little one was very content with a bucket and a shovel - water depth: 1 yard in 1 foot deep, 2 yards in 2 feet deep and then deeper faster - this is my impression- only meant to help other parents. Other sides could be very different. Water was refreshing. I don't remember seeing any vegan options at the store - the mozzarella sticks tasted like my husband's childhood. 😆 I loved the convenience of it, not far to begin with, parking lot not far from the beach, a few picnic tables, plenty of shady areas, and a playground too."
